For ‘Columbiners,’ School Shootings Have a Deadly Allure

Many who have followed the Columbine shooting said they were looking for the attention and fame. I would agree that media should cover the event but not promote the shooter.

I've written quite a bit about the media's culpability in mass shootings over the years. We already know that the media's mantra is, "If it bleeds it leads," but school shootings get special attention. They raise these people to the the almost immortal level in terms of attention.

In my personal opinion it's much like putting the rabid dog down, but then throwing it in the kennel for all the other dogs to see. Only, in the case of the media, they're casting it world-wide. Some might argue that the dog is no longer contagious after it dies, but that only comes with time - after you've given everything in the body time to die.

The shooter's names, motives, etc. should never be written, or broadcast. If anything the story should merely be that there was a shooting, and that x number of people died/were injured. Nothing more.

That's how they make their blood money.
