SgtMaj John Carson (page 3) was my neighbor for a few years in the early 90's at Camp Lejeune. He'd been long retired as a highly decorated Marine Raider. Every morning he raised the US flag and USMC colors in front of his house. We heard later from his next door neighbor who was 3rd SgtMaj USMC McHugh's sister, that John had passed. He was one hard man, and Heaven help the kid who rode their bike off the sidewalk onto his yard. I spoke with him a few times and he was all Marine to the end. It's too late for Memorial Day wishes, but I'd venture that very few in this newsletter are still with us. Semper Fi.

They were such a small bunch that others knew them by name/nickname. In 89 on Oki we had an O Call/PME with a Raider as Guest Speaker. He had retired as a MGySgt (Deloach). I asked if he knew Carson. His reply was "hell yeah I know him, when you get Stateside again you tell him hello from an old Dog Company Marine."
