I'm probably coming off as rude or "not understanding enough" but I don't know how this is news worthy. It's similar to Hillary Clinton going around the world to blame men, women, straight, gay, black, white, etc Americans as to why she lost the 2016 elections.
News Wars sound like they're connected to InfoWars so take it as it is. But you're half correct. She has been used by others for why we shouldn't be in the military, why we should, and the "gay agenda" theory. She also exploited herself by blaming her gender identity issues as to why she went to prison (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/bradley-manning-comes-out-as-transgendered-i-am-a-female/2013/08/22/0ae67750-0b25-11e3-8974-f97ab3b3c677_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.7021ccf3051a
"In April 2010, while serving as an Army intelligence analyst in Baghdad, Manning sent an e-mail to Master Sgt. Paul Adkins, a superior, with the subject line, “My problem.” The e-mail described struggles with a gender-identity disorder. In a photo attached to the e-mail, Manning is wearing a blond wig and makeup.") While I feel the pain of not being recognized or treated as what you've seen yourself, she blamed her problems, not herself, for the decisions she made during the second major surge into Iraq.
She isn't a war hero, she isn't an honorable veteran and she built herself a hard life to live by giving into some guy on the internet instead of her unit and she decided to blame her lack of treatment for her GID (today it's gender dysphoria, I know) instead of owning up to her own decisions.
She was praised as a hero by civilians in the lgbt community when made a Grand Marshal in the SF Pride Parade (https://www.buzzfeed.com/saeedjones/san-francisco-pride-sparks-outrage-by-naming-bradley-manning?utm_term=.jpyQbWQjw#.ssBnbPn3W) which is just baffling!
While being trans (many will argue between "real transitioning trans" versus those who wish to be called various gender identities) has a high rate of suicidal ideation. Suicide is not a laughing matter and something I take seriously with my team, unit, personnel I mentor, civilian friends/family. Period. But her inability to find herself post federal prison post dishonorable discharge, will add to the factors towards suicidal ideation. Being trans, combat veteran, prison, lack of positive family or community contact and tackling something huge like running for an elected office spells disaster in my book, personally.
I don't trust her, I don't believe in her ability and will not associate myself with someone, regardless of LGBT status, who places themselves first over the defense of the nation who raised their right hand to do so.
I hope she gets the care she needs but don't believe this is breaking news.

Bradley Manning comes out as transgender: ‘I am a female’
Army private who leaked documents reveals that he identifies as female, wants to be called ‘Chelsea.’

Personal feels aside, that's true. She is a tragic figure. Different leadership, mentorship and personal will would've led to different decisions in her life.

SFC (Join to see) - I think if one reads the history of PFC Manning and the motivation of his boyfriend and hacker community you will find more information that has not been in the news.

Manning is obviously a mess. I'm sure some of that can be attributed to people using her as a pawn in their agendas, however ultimately people are responsible for taking care of themselves.
