Do not underestimate the Iranians. They still have Russian support and Turkey is their friend as well. Iran has learned to remanufacture or maintain F-14 and F4 Phantoms in their Air Force.

The Tomcat was a great fighter aircraft but I don't think the avionics are up to par any longer. If the Russians are helping them, I am not highly concerned. It is also the skill of the jockey that makes a huge difference. We heard a lot about the mighty Iraqi Air Force before Gulf War I. I think it would take us just about as long to have air supremacy over Iran airspace, if we wanted it.
