I hope she isn't being crucified because she is a woman. I would like to think lack of skill, wrong decision making, responsibility for placing an unqualified crew in charge of navigation operations, or unavoidable scenario ( which the report says it was aviodable) are the issues being considered. UNLESS, fraternization was the reason she was charged with the position.

Why are you even bringing that up? Barratry and dead sailors supersedes political correctness.
May as well blame her race... shame on you!

That is a real jerk remark. You know better!!! I would never minimize the deaths of humans. I CHOSE to comment on the logistical screw up being a lack of professional acuity and not the"you shouldn't have hired a woman" double standard s*!#. Now, as for loss of life, TRUMP needs to bring "those sitting in harm's way" home out of harm's way , instead of tearing down every initiative Obama instituted.
You have really ticked me off!

I believe the pity is the fact her Commanding Officer saw fit to qualify her as an Officer of the Deck (Underway). She obviously wasn't ready, didn't understand the Standing Orders, didn't understand she could have slowed down (or stopped the ship to regain her Situational Awareness), could have called the XO or her Dept Head - she blew it and killed seven Sailors. The rest of the bridge and CIC teams helped her blow it by doing nothing. The Tactical Action Officer (TAO) and/or CIC Watch Officer should have run to the bridge to help her, but didn't. It shouldn't take catastrophes such as this to highlight issues in the Surface Fleet.

Agreed. So i think we can agree it is and was a failure of leadership?
Hers is not the only career to end that night. Naval Boards of Inquiry are notoriously unforgiving and a single bad entry in your jacket can end your career.
Unfortunately, that’s how it should be...

It's not hard to stay away from the long green table - some folks, however, just seem attracted to it by doing stupid 'stuff', like qualifying people to stand watches they have no business standing. That's why we have long green tables - the only unfortunate thing would be if the rest of the Surface Warfare community learns nothing and changes nothing.
