How will this affect those of higher rank? SSG and above who have been in 6+ years and have completed all of their SSD levels that have been required. Just curious if there is any information on this yet or still under development stages.

Grandfathered in most likely. Just like everything else. I just did SSD4 - and just did SLC after having to defer it for 3 years. Sadly.
But usually people get grandfathered in - just like those people who were promoted to MSG before they started MLC won't have to go to MLC and get to be MSG. I think before Oct 2016 or something.

If they are grandfathered in, my question is how will that affect the GPA of those individuals? If those who are not grandfathered in will have to take these classes and acquire a GPA average over the time they take the courses to follow. But I guess only time will tell for what exactly what happens.
