"Initiative Petition 43 "criminalizes possession or transfer of 'assault weapons' (defined) or 'large capacity magazines' (defined), WITH EXCEPTIONS," according to the draft ballot title."

OK, I capitalized "with exceptions" here for a reason.

Without having looked up the actual document, who here wants to bet that the "exceptions" apply to the State (capital "S")? In other words, government employees of whatever flavor?

So, let me go back to the article and continue reading...maybe it says something about that.

AH-HAH! And so it does!

"Military and law enforcement employees who are required to carry firearms would be exempt, as would retailers and manufacturers who sell the weapons to those agencies. For everyone else, possession of the weapons would be a Class B felony."

NOW...let's take a look at their definition of an "assault weapon":

"It would define assault weapons as certain semiautomatic rifles and pistols that can accommodate detachable magazines and have other military style features such as a collapsible stock or grenade launcher. Semiautomatic shotguns would also fall under the definition if they have fixed magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition or have other features such as the option for a detachable magazine."

SO, their definition of an "assault weapon" has absolutely NOTHING to do with any kind of military assault weapon at all...which is what the term is implied to be by the government officials.

Which means they're doing the usual legal runaround by CREATING a definition of something they want to ban and THEN declaring it illegal.

Typical.

OK, now let's look at the future, where this is leading us?

"People who already own these weapons would be allowed to keep them, if they register them and pass a criminal background check."

AH-HAH! An official gun registration database, which can then be used by the State (capital "S" again) at a later date to CONFISCATE these weapons as well, as soon as they get around to making ANY possession of such weapons illegal.

I swear, it's cr*p like this that makes humanity seem like the DUMBEST species on this planet, for all that we DO NOT LEARN THE LESSONS OF HISTORY!

The article claims 'Portland area clergy are leading the effort'. Some group should lead a ballot initiative to remove the tax-exempt status for all those 'clergy'.
