Leap-Ahead Technologies: Could They Be the Army's Undoing?

IMHO, this is going to come back and bite them square on the rear.

The 6 modernization priorities make sense and are probably what we need for the future. However, the criticism of FCS was that we bit off more than we could chew, and we can't bite all these at the same time, either. IMO contractors always brief the Army on possibilities--that is, with enough money we can advance the technology, and it's usually not anywhere affordable unless everything goes toward that. We should go back to what DuBois said when we evaluate any potential program: What is it, and what will it accomplish, and at what cost? If it gets too big or complicated, we just cannot depend on being able to manage (or fund) all the moving parts.

Jefe, a simple example is the GPS. Anybody can use a GPS but what do you do when the batteries die? Can you read a map? Navigate... Jefe I remember long after GPS's became the cool thing using paper maps to find a location and navigate there.
