On April 29, 1930 the great film All Quiet on the Western Front based on Erich Maria Remarque's novel Im Westen nichts Neues premiers. The comparisons between the two could not be more stark. When the Nazis organized book burnings, Remarque's novels were some of the first thrown upon the fires.
