I remember being in Greece; in the seventies- and helicopters flying from Turkey over Greece. I was very fearful.

In the 70s, the US had the US Field Artillery Detachments all over the Southern European Task Force and Greece and Turkey were fighting in ‘74. It was interesting times to be in SETAF and we often speculated that Turkey was in NATO because Greece was in NATO. If Greece left, as would Turkey

but the recent meeting of Turkey, Iran and Russia may skew the way western nations accept Turkey in the future. I’m sitting on the sidelines watching the very interesting events unfold!

The Turks are a rather racist bunch however if you ask a Turk if there is a problem more than likely they will say no - Turks aren't racist.
The realities - they don't like Kurd's, don't like Armenians don't like Russians or anyone black or anyone that has a different religion and so on.
As such this inflames their cultural problems -

First racist political party founded in Turkey in 2017, Turks presented as ‘superior race’
The Ötüken Union Party – Turkey’s first openly racist political party to run for parliament – was founded on Dec. 20, online publisher Duvar reported on Jan. 5, citing the yearly political party list released by the Supreme Court of Appeals Prosecutor’s Office.

One of my enduring memories of my time in Turkey: Istanbul shipyards building a new yacht for some Middle Eastern country. They had to test a new boat davit and, unlike every advanced country in the world which uses sand bags and concrete blocks, they used living people. Needless to say, the dynamic test failed and 12 workers were crushed and/or drowned. Life is cheap in Turkey.
