Well, CW5 Jack Cardwell, I'm sure that the Army has put their best medical minds to work prior to allowing these enlistments, but I personally believe that over time, the overall retention rate of this "batch" of recruits will prove to be poor and thus a costly error for the Army.

“As the stigma of seeking therapy or counseling becomes less of an issue than when I grew up, you’ll see probably more cause for waivers,” Esper said. “But again, the waiver is only for an historical condition that we look at and assess. We do not allow anybody in who is undergoing therapy, who is a cutter or was a cutter, identified clearly as a cutter or is using drugs. They are not allowed into the service. And I will not accept them. Quality trumps quantity every single day of the week.”
Considering that recruiters still can't meet numbers and I heard they're issuing waivers for felons again...sigh.

Bipolar and self mutilation bad... depression should depend on the circumstances. If they lost a parent and went to get help getting over it no problem. If they attempted suicide a few times in high school that would be a problem.
