Officially established on June 14th 1775, the Continental Army was the only branch during the Revolutionary War that wasn't disbanded at the end of the conflict. They instead, in 1792 became The Legion of the United States and in 1796 they officially became what is known as the U.S. Army.

When I see a picture of George Washington, it reminds me of Clausewitz Trinity: Military Genius, Rational Government, Passion of the People as overarching tenets of war. Then I think of Mao's steps to a successful revolution: The elite will start the revolution, they gain supporters, the group conducts asymmetric warfare, build a peer size army, then win the war.
