Thanks for sharing, it sounds very similar. Fortunately I’ve got a very good woman who is understanding, and has helped me deal with the results of the many IED blasts I was subjected to as a Route Clearance platoon sergeant in Ramadi. Including the one on my truck that ultimately lead to my retirement.

I know how very fortunate I am, there are hundreds of others who are so much worse, with no one to be their constant companion.

One thing I do not understand about this. My Sister suffered a stroke about a year ago and she could not walk or speak afterwards. Over a year with training the paralyis is largely gone and she scan speak again. After her stroke the Nurse said because she was under 60, the brain would recover from the damage with therapy over time. So here is my question with the IED brain injuries, are those permenant and you have to deal with them the rest of your life or do they slowly fade away with therapy.........similar to a stroke? Just curious as I do not know enough in this area medically one way or another.

In my experience, I knew the difference. I knew I wasn't right. However, there's no quantifiable damage that I can point to and say, "this is what is wrong with me." It seems to me from my efforts to address the problem that I am still functional, so the army considers it no problem, and therefore did not allocate resources to render aid. Lots of people need a list to remember all they need at the grocery store. Lots of people struggle with forgetfulness. I have learned to cope as they have learned to cope, but it does cause a lot of frustration.

SGT Russell Wickham - OK, thanks that is fairly bad they do not attempt therapy. I wonder if it is because the injury is new or they have no clue what the therapy would be as the region of the brain impacted is a fairly new area.
