Thank you for sharing this MAJ (Join to see). Comments like "It's just a piece of cloth" make perfect sense to people who have no idea what goes into providing freedom that they enjoy. For those who serve, that "piece of cloth" has a very high price tag.

SFC Mark Merino No problem. And the thing is no matter how big our problems here are, there's still thousands of jihadis that would love to take their heads off just because they're an American. They could care 2 dinars what they're political orientation, belief, or anything else about them other than the fact that they're American.
America has its issues, but we're off a lot better than many other parts of the world.

When we "liberated" the heck out of Iraq, I saw how the conditions were in the south and I had no idea that people could sustain life under those conditions. I have never been more happy to be an American. My ex was from Huntington Beach, CA and thought all of the United States was 72* and sunshine. Stand a post, America. You have no idea.

So true. Today there are fewer and fewer who've served. More and more like the guy who stated it was just a piece of cloth. I like the rest of you will make the stand for this "piece of cloth".

Personally I was outraged. I live near Ferguson and I know one of the protesters and I vocalized my opinion to him. What really pissed me off was that a-hole reporter saying "it's just a piece of cloth". It shows just how ignorant people can be.

PO3 Shaun Taylor I think that is a spot on assessment. I think they were trying to see if they could put Soldiers in the position of doing something aggressive to further spark violence and drama.

News as become more about sensationalism than journalism. Fortunately, there are a few places out there where you can get a different perspective. I check out Vice news a lot.

I have taught myself to check out numerous news sources when a story interests me. I actually learned how to do that in two college courses, sociology and a communications class. I watched the HBO show VICE but did not know about Vice News. I will check it out. Thank you for that information MAJ (Join to see) .

I couldn't be prouder of those young Guardsmen in a crummy situation with a tough mission doing something so simple and poignant. If any of you are out there on RP, identify yourself and I have a coin with your name on it.

1SG (Join to see) That's awesome. One thing that struck me in their movements was after they got the flag, one of the soldiers walked backwards checking their six. The protesters thought it was funny, but they don't understand that goes back into our training of full situational awareness.

Unfortunately, they probably needed to cover their six. Those were bona fide communists that were doing the jeering.
