While interesting, there are tools that can be used and developed now. Bear with me.
Have any of you seen "professional" virus removal? Generally it's some person with a set of automatic tools which can usually be put on a bootable USB. There are coders out there who can sift through actual code, but it's time consuming and requires a lot of specialized training.
For all of us older geeks - you can't just dump a COBOL programmer in place, and expect him/her to write Beethoven's 9th in a Linux environment in a manageable time frame. Also, your average geek wouldn't survive Marine Corps basic training. (Yes, there are many who could, and some have.)
From what I've seen of battlefield computers they're generally bulky, not to mention less capable unless something has changed in the last few years. With current technology something like a Pip-Boy with more functionality is achievable.
