LTC (Join to see) Regarding the powder bags, they reconstitute the powder before it leaves the depot. Yes there are still HE projectiles also. The BB is a great platform for launching missles.

If Congress is so worried then build a few new ones with all of the high tech we have now compared to 1940's tech. Maybe add 18" guns instead of the 16" they had

The Yamamato had 9 18" guns in WWII and she did nothing but sink after 17 bomb and 19 torpedo hits. In WWI the HMS Furious had 3 18" guns She did a bit more not nothing spectacular. 18" guns are a flash in the pants. 16" shells are like throwing a VW loaded with Explosives 20 miles and landing it within 150 yards. Not bad for an analog aiming system. Think of what you could do with a Spotter down range. raise 5 and fire for effect!

Talk about Naval Gunnery Observer , I had the honor of working with a prior service Marine who was one of those Battleship Gunnery type guys that was Airborne qualified that could be dropped Behind Enemy Lines. 12 years ago, he joined our civil Affairs Battalion in Upland California. He became Sergeant immediately because of his basic marine corps non commissioned officer leadership course certificate counted in the United States Army Reserve. He was Airborne qualified in the Marine Corps so he was able to get recertified quickly with us since we were in Airborne civil Affairs unit. He was my right hand man for civil Affairs project since his civilian job was being a contractor. He also was a survivor of the Beirut bombing. He was in the adjacent building in the basement when the truck bomb came through. His name was staff sergeant Jeffrey Maunder.
