DOJ releases regulation banning bump stocks

"“In this proposed rule, the department accordingly interprets the definition of ‘machine gun’ to clarify that all bump stock-type devices are ‘machine guns’ under the GCA and NFA because they convert a semiautomatic firearms into a firearm that shoots automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger,” the DOJ said Friday."

This statement is so far outside mechanical engineering it is more than absurd; it defies the laws of mechanics, physics, and logic.

If I'm reading the proposed regulation right, this has just been thrown out for public opinion, with the deadline for submission of comments being 90 days from the posting date in the Federal Register. So it's just a first step in the process FWIW. It may fly or it may not. A lot of cash can change hands during that timeframe, as well as political capital and IOUs. Thanks for sharing.
