He might have been the best air wing commander in the navy, but he went on liberty and most likely did what sailors do, and lost his job, but the navy will replace him even though the new officer might not be as good! Being the best in job is second fiddle now. It appears to me from talking to sailors in the Navy today, they put more emphasis on liberty conduct than on the job you do. By today's military standards on conduct, where would Gen Patten be placed? Where would Adm Halsey be placed? Or how about Gen MacArthur? Do you think of General Doolittle? You might be shocked. I think this PC Military is going to suffer with soft personnel afraid to be rough and tough on the job and on liberty! That softness of command will trickle down through the ranks. And when war comes, and it will, I fear that we will not have our best in command! I want the knuckle daggers in charge and fighting the war the way it needs to be fought! That is my humble opinion!

PO3 Bob McCord - You got that right Bob, I started in my Navy with a Boot camp CC (CPO) that was a WWII Vet, an engineman. He was as mean as they get, I think he hated his own mother. His picture was on the Knuckle-dragger quarterly Magazine March 1967. He worked hard, and played hard on liberty. He was the kind of sailor I wanted to be next to when the war started. I can guarantee he had no white paint on his hands from painting the local church while on liberty and he wasn't delivering merit badges to the Boy scouts! I learned a lot from him and many like him in my early Navy years. When I retired, I had no white paint on my hands either!

I can't begin to imagine how our world wars would have turned out, had we had such PC related rules and regulations in place. What matters is competency, there are other ways to manage the discipline of our senior officers that worked out well in past years (perhaps decades now).
