CH (COL) Geoff Bailey: Cost-cutting is always good....On the other hand: that Red Cross Naval ship will be badly needed in the event of war.

This ranks with cutting A-10s because of costs IMO. Mission and need is still there and until a better method can be devised they need to stay on active duty.

If and as we cut back the ChiComs will step in to fill the vacuum. The ship could be used for humanitarian relief and aid around the world and give US a chance to wave the flag in a good cause.
