“On this day seventy four years ago 12th March 1944 PB4Y-1 Liberator BuNo 63946 of VB-110 Squadron of the US Navy Fleet Air Wing 7. BuNo 63946 was in the Bay of Biscay on a Anti-submarine patrol ETO Airborne at 0856 and was last radio contacted at 22.21 was an SOS. BuNo 63946 was given the wrong heading by the RAF operator for St Eval and as a result of the navigational error BuNo 63946 failed to return from assigned mission. BuNo 63946 crashed in the sea near the Cherbourg Peninsula, France. Missing crew:
