This was a witch hunt when you go that far. . Unless the Bn Commander was actually neglecting to have his officers and Marines keep up top speed on the SOP and failing to make sure that supervision was available to watch for SOP Violations 24/7 he was not culpable. There should be a Series Officer or other member of company Staff on duty at all times top check on DIs. Plus the Battalion, Regiment and Depot have OODS to watch over training.

The guilty LtCol is being forced to retire (no reduction in rank unless SecNav disagrees with the sentence), he gets fined $1K/mo for five months, a written reprimand and no prison time. The reprimand means nothing, since he's gone anyway. RHIP. When I was a DI (70's), if I'd have sneezed at a recruit and he was an allegator who was feeling mean, I'd have gotten time in Leavenworth for assault.
