Why I Don't Let My Military Kids Watch War Movies

This is, probably, the dumbest thing I've ever read. (Okay, maybe not dumbest, but a waste of time) She could have cut the article down to one paragraph and just said she picks movies based on age-appropriateness. (But, she is a writer and English major...so I guess this was her way of getting published) You know, at the ages she mentions, I never let my kids watch "war" movies or horror films or pornos. I think her spouse is Captain Obvious.

With my sons being 6 and 9 years old we currently don't watch war movies together. That will no doubt change as they grow old enough to understand what they are seeing. I'm all for letting children be children for as long as they can. But the world and its ways are out there and nothing short of putting my kids in isolation can stop them from coming. I don't see my job as a parent as shielding them from the world forever, but to teach them how to deal with the world they live in. The author's kids saw cancer and death at an early age. While no one wants to see kids go through that, it is unfortunately a part of life. Again, while I protect my kids from the things I can, my main objective is to teach them how to navigate through tough waters.

And back to the war movies, yeah one day we'll watch them together. The Bible says there will always be wars and rumors of wars. Who better to teach them about this reality than their father?

I had no problems with my son watching war movies. He knew the difference.
