The only difference between Military Police Investigations Course and Crimal Investigation Division Course is one added week for CID students to study murder scenes. CID investigates “serious crimes” whereas MPI investigates “lesser more common crimes”. As an MPI investigator and supervisor. I have investigated all of them. Additionally, MPI provides PSD, Protective Security Detail, for high ranking general officers, Secretary of the Army and other senior DOD civilians. Great job, lots of hours.

MPI may do “PSD”, but PSD is it’s own ASI (D7), which should not be confused with V5.

When I went to MP school in 1981 we covered 6 weeks of combat training and two weeks of LE stuff. Almost all the LE was in the class room. MP school sure has changed.

In ‘81, we learned just enough LE in MP OSUT to get our rears kicked. I was almost completely unprepared for LE duty when I got to it, but was spun up to speed pretty quick by NCOs and my peers. Of the troops!

They are Guard. It’s funny how the article didn’t mention that. They are practicing standard techniques used by MPI (military police investigations).

There are many pockets of excellence out there in Guard-land. Some of the MOS-T courses (transitioning other Soldiers into MP's) are better than what I've seen out at Ft. Leonard Wood. Many of them in fact. Most of the instructors are cops on the outside, or Feds, or CO's. LOTS of LE experience out there...
