"The 25-year-old stabbed and left in serious condition Thursday was visiting Hawaii from New York and was attacked on Nohonani Street between 3:30 and 3:50 a.m. by two suspects he reportedly did not know."
Not that it makes it right but if you are walking the streets by yourself at 0330 you might find trouble whether you are looking for it or not.

There is a part of me that agrees with you 100% however often having jobs that take me out late, much of the world is dead and quiet at 0330.
