The Rev. Billy Graham, prominent Christian evangelist, dead at 99

Sad news about this great evangelist.

Great religious figure!

I thought you might get a kick out of this, SSG William Jones! This photo of me was taken at Billy Graham’s 1972 Alabama Crusade held at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, May 14-21, 1972. My college roommate’s father was friends with Graham and was able to get a press pass for me to go down on the field to take photos. I wasn’t even a real photographer and I have no idea what happened to the photos! My parents, now deceased, had kept a bunch of photos of my sisters and me and this was one of them. It’s a shame I don’t know what happened to the photos I took, because platform guests included Bear Bryant, Mary Bryant, Joe Namath, Ray Perkins, Tom Landry, Scott Hunter, Mike Kolen and other sports figures.
I have no idea how I was able to have hair like that, because I was a sergeant in the 20th SFG(A) at the time. We were allowed to have longer hair, but I sure don’t remember anything like that! Anyway, I started OCS a month later, and my hair got buzzed down to my scalp!
