I don't expect someone with as little life experience as a teenager to suggest the exact policy prescription to make schools safer, but surely someone else could, yes? Legislation has been passed to restrict access to firearms to those deemed "unfit" to own such weapons, but what else can be prescribed? A flat out firearm ban? Not going to happen. The 2nd Amendment was established to combat a usurpacious and tyrannical government--the legislature prescribing policies to take away guns from law-abiding citizens seems like the first step to achieve that status despite it being administered for the "right" reasons.

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

I understand the students protesting. I wonder how many of them will actually get out and vote after they turn 18 ???

MSG Stan Hutchison I wonder how many of those that go and vote are going to vote intelligently. I don't care who a person votes for, I just hate when someone votes for a candidate based on political advertising without looking into how the candidate acts.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel I hate to break it to her, but their deaths were in vain. They were young people gunned down because some ass clown decided his anger was worth the lives of 17 people. What he did was illegal, that didn't stop him from doing it. People who wish to cause harm, will cause harm. Take away the guns, and they will find another way to cause their harm. The fact she refers to the rifle as a "Weapon of Mass Destruction" takes away from her position. People agree that these incidents need to be mitigated. The disagreement comes in how that is achieved. Simply banning one type of gun is not going to solve the problem. It goes far deeper than just how a person commits a heinous act. The reality is that reducing acts of violence is going to take work. It means getting into the heads of people and changing how they think, and what they think is an acceptable outlet for their anger. Until that happens, these events are not going to stop.
