First BS, if you are middle class and have a house more than $750,000.00 you're a moron and should pay more taxes. (750K is the point where the author's PMI deduction goes away, and if you can affort that much house you're not middle class). This is also a non-point because the standard deduction was doubled for everyone so likely everyone got a tax deduction because they won't be itemizing anymore.
The main issue with the "Might" reduce their tax refund is dependent on if they have children, anyone low or middle class with a single child will pay less simply because the increase in the reimbursable child tax credit completely eliminates the lost personal deductions. If you don't have kids you still get almost $2,000 in more standard deductions because of the standard deduction increase. And if you have a kid 0-17 you get an additional $2,000 tax credit for a middle class family that is about an additional $13,000 tax deduction per kid. Way better than any PMI deduction gave.
It is with near certainty that every single low and middle class citizen will pay less in taxes due to the Republican tax cuts, the only real exception is for upper middle class individuals who pay state income tax and lost their SIT deduction. As those high income tax states are almost all Democrats, it's likely the only people who will be paying more in taxes are the Democratic upper class, who want to pay more in taxes anyway!

Actually I work to make mine as small as possible- I am not into giving the government an interest free loan. First lesson of fiscal responsibility is to plan- if you are using your tax refund as a plan you are allowing someone else the power of YOUR interest.

We are banking on the increased standard deduction of $24K for couples to ease taxes. How many low and middle-class people have more than $24K in standard deductions? Not many I would venture to say unless they had extremely high medical bills, etc...We have never come near that much by itemizing deductions.
