I hope the Good Lord explains it to me on judgement day why some people choose to live in poverty when they have a clear choice and opportunity not too. I have seen it happen even in my own immediate family. I have tried over and over again to figure out why that is but I can never seem to find the root cause. So I leave it for a higher power. In this case, these folks are just pushing for reduction and elimination of their jobs via automation or self-service. I don't see any Fast Food restaurant paying out $15 an hour unless someone is really experienced, can do basic math repetitively, and can cook fast. So a lot of them are protesting themselves out of a job.

Actually the McDonalds in Midland/Odessa, TX pay $15 an hour or at least was when I moved here in 2012.

LT Charles Baird - Midland/Odessa is not exactly a place where people are stampeding to live so they can get away with a wage like that. Likewise, probably few other McDonald's or hamburger joints to compete on price.

SPC Erich Guenther - You are right on the Stampeding part - we have a boat load of people but they come in for 2 - 3 weeks at a time to work then go home - as for burger joints - we have quite a few and they are building more each quarter - we have all the main burger chains McDonalds, Burger King, Five Guys, Sonic, etc.. not including all the Burrito joints - I can throw a stone in any direction and hit about 10 of them - all people do here is work and eat and most don't cook they go out to eat.

LT Charles Baird - FOX News just found a guy who had been working at McDonald's on the hourly rate for 23 years straight. Thats pretty low ambition and I wonder how many more are there are in the same boat? At any rate we have the same issue in Dallas with folks constantly eating out vs cooking at home. They then pay through the nose for weight reduction programs but never show any real weight loss. It's not hard to lose weight when your obese, just cut out Sodas and Replace with flavored water will drop 20-30lbs off most people without any other diet restriction. Oh well, weight control is another topic.

What irks me about this is that I know people that have busted hump in trade school to get that 20 dollar an hour job and in some cases getting in debt like 20-40k for it.
