In a strange series of events, Iraq is set to receive T90S MBTs from Russia shortly after general dynamics suspends maintenance of the M1 Abrams after Iraq violated it's terms of use by providing a M1 to the Iranian-backed Hashd al-Shaabi Popular Mobilization Force.

The PMF is the regions response to ISIL - a regional national guard of sorts that gets its training from a number of sources. One source is Qasem Soleiman (very nasty individual), who is in charge of Iran's Quds Force. As well Hezbollah. This is not good - as this is Iran's way of setting their hooks deep into Iraq as the PMF is under the control of Iran's State and clergy. Without a doubt there will be individuals within the PMF that will reporting back to Iran with what's going on.
My big concern as well is that these guys or Iran will be trading in the M1's for these tin cans.

Assuming this T90S is not a watered down version, then we're talking a near peer to the M1A2

The T90S that is going to Iraq is a watered down version...lets say washed away. The reactive armor is minimal. They will not have the Russian copy of the Dazzler and instead of the cast turret they will have a welded turret.

I bet the T-90 is easier to maintain which means win-win-win for Iraq, Iran, and Russia. Only loser is US defense industry. I remember much discussion back in 2008 trying to align Iraq with NATO equipment and supply lines to replace U.S. dependence.
