LTC Greg Henning My Last "Personal" Experience was explaining the Operation of the SM-2 to the Newest OS1. Telling Him that it was a Beam Rider and that if it Leaves the Beam it will self destruct. Explaining that it doesn't hit the Target but has a Proximity Fuse and Explodes Very Close to the Target (Spraying it with Rebar propelled by HE) About the Time I was going to say that they can "Roll" on the Beam and Come Back Home. It Did Just That. Not a Good Day at the Office, Veered out to Starboard at the last Minute and Exploded when it hit the Water 60 Yards Out or So From Me.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel The SM-2 Block IIIB is a very good missile, and is guided differently with AEGIS than the CGNs you were on. The SM-3 is not a bad missile either, ballistic missile defense is just extremely difficult.
