Personal responsibility failure,
Fellow marines present when he was at/ departed bar responsibility failure .
This was not a mistake..... mistake might be, hitting some black ice, crossing the divider and causing the same accident
A Mistake might be having the safety on your M203 snag on a piece of kit unknowingly, and then the weapon firing when another piece of kit brushed the trigger.
In todays information age, in a land of the eternal safety briefing, in a environment that started talking the dangers of drunk driving in boot camp, and followed on in his unit, the PSA's seen, heard, read about constantly ... there is no reasonable way to believe this Marine was not aware of the dangers of being intoxicated and driving under the influence.
There were others present that knew of his inebriated condition and only minimally tried to intervene (they could have done a lot more)
All of that, and still this happened..... How do you change that kind of action,, what more can you reasonable do to get in front of DUI..
Is it just life, accept it, deal with the aftermath as appropriate and worry about things you can change?
Leaders still serving, peers still seeing your friends drunk and about to drive.. WHAT WILL YOU DO..
Not what will you post in response to this thread... those are just words, what will you DO today, tonight, this upcoming weekend?
DUI is 100% preventable...

I will never understand this shit.
Back when I tried to be a non drinker I was the platoon DD everyone had my number no questions asked.
When I did start hitting the bottle my spouse knew where I was and not expect me home but if I did call to come get me asap shuts gone sideways and I'm not driving even after just one drink.

At least he'll spend time in prison, unlike most of the DUI murderers in my State. Last year a woman completed her drug rehab and the day she arrived home shot up with heroin and killed two senior citizens. She had to be revived with Narcan. Verdict was six months home confinement. Truly disgusting.
