Interesting article. I disagree with the author, who claims:
- negatively consequential: GW Bush
- positively consequential: LBJ
It is hard not to see Reagan as the most consequential. He arrested the momentum toward ever-growing big government, reformed the tax code, strengthened the military, led the largest peacetime expansion of our nation's economy, and to this day serves as the touchstone for conservative governance. When was the last time one heard a politician say they are an LBJ liberal or a Carter liberal or a Nixonian. It is Reagan who so many invoke today. That counts for something.
It is a great question and there are no doubt many opinions.

President Reagan is my favorite President for several reasons, however, I can't support the argument that he "arrested the momentum toward ever-growing big government". He tried, he really tried, but his attention was focused elsewhere (the Cold War) and the Democrats reneged on their promises, and government continued to grow cancerously. And yes, the comments in the article tarring GW Bush as negatively consequential and LBJ as positively consequential, were ridiculous. All I agreed with was his assessment of President Nixon being consequential as a response to the main theme of the piece.

I'm not pro Nixon, but I believe every president from Washington to Trump has done something, if the public knew, would fall into unfavorable to the American public. Nixon just got caught.

I believe that would be Ronald Regan, both for the things he did and the things he prevented!
