Tragic and senseless. Educating children about firearms goes a long way to prevention IMO. Sounds like some adults need an education as well.

PO2 Robert Aitchison - I started my kids with BB guns when they started getting interested and by 6 they were both shooting pellet and .22 rifles. Unlike their friends who weren't accustomed to them, my boys had a healthy respect and desire to shoot. Not the "Oh look, a gun! Let's mess with it" that some of their peers had. They had pistols and rifles their entire childhood. I built them ARs and they both qualified expert on the M-16/4 platforms in the military.
Knowing that you have firearms and that they should not touch them without supervision should be taught from the earliest of ages if you have them in the home. I'm not saying a 3 year old should be left with a loaded shotgun, or any firearm.

Parents need to be a more responsible gun owner's. It only cost a few bucks to put a trigger lock on it or keep it unloaded it you have little one's around..
