Thanks Maj Marty Hogan for letting us know that January 24 is the anniversary of the birth of American Charismatic Christian televangelist Granville Oral Roberts who was ordained in both the Pentecostal Holiness and United Methodist churches.
Sadly he was very proud and insisted on naming his college and hospital he created after himself which seems to be in keeping with his word of faith leanings.
I know a number of ministers who graduated from Oral Roberts University.
Rest in peace Oral Roberts!

Yes, Roberts was definitely controversial. I remember him on TV when I was a kid, and when he came up with his funding appeal based on his alleged conversation with a 900-foot Jesus. It generated a lot of controversy.
