The Commiewealth of Massachusetts just issued letters to everyone who currently holds a license to carry stating that they have to get rid of their bump stocks and other such devices. There's a law going into effect Feb 1 making it illegal to sell, purchase, or possess such devices.

The job of a squad automatic weapon or light machine gun is suppression fire not necessarily accuracy a bump stock on let's say a civilian RPK would serve that function well. the question is why would a civilian need the ability to lay down suppression fire. they wouldn't. however its their right under the constitution to possess any weapon. however we have violated the 2nd and 14th amendments. the second being the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. and the 14th being No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the law. the 1934 nfa act placing a 200 tax stamp on automatic weapons as well as mandatory registration of the weapon and restricting personal ownership to those that can get permission to own such weapons is definite infringement also it deprives citizens of a right and privilege without due process of law and the needed due process would be a revision of the 2nd amendment. and where was the army that day? not defending the constitution.

One of the biggest concerns is that Congress won't, nor doesn't want to make a decision on a lot of this. SOOOOO, they are potentially turning the decision over to the BATFE, who is supposed to be an enforcement arm, NOT a law making one. A conflict of interest at best.

Good point...they are derelict in their duties. They have been doing a lot of things lately which suggest we need to replace them as our so called representatives.

After reading this and hopefully understanding it, I have one question - How are the persons affected compensated? If there is no compensation, doesn't that violate the US Constitution and possibly the state's constitution? Sounds eerily of a violation of the 5th Amendment if that is the case; but then we won't find out until it goes into effect and someone can sue for relief and it hits the US Supreme Court. That is the slippery slope.

There are a couple of advocacy groups that are already working on a lawsuit. Your question is an argument I've seen in a number of conversations concerning this situation. From what I've come to understand, the compensation is not being labeled a felon.
I have no idea how they plan on enforcing this, but I guess that's something I should have expected coming out of MA. Truly conservative politicians there are like unicorns and leprechauns so the people don't really have anyone protecting them from this crap.
