Thanks Maj Marty Hogan for letting us know that January 23 is the anniversary of the birth of American merchant, statesman, and prominent Patriot of the American Revolution John Hancock who served as president of the Second Continental Congress and was the first and third Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
As the first signatory of the Declaration of Independence his signature was larger than all the rest.
In the days before finger signatures when we used pens putting your John Hancock was an appropriate phrase :-)
