Army officer still married to first spouse gets passed over for promotion

I'll have to send that one to my son. He's enlisted and living in the barracks, has had 4 roommates in the last year and a half. All three of them that moved out did so because they got married. The fourth one is talking about getting engaged. After the last one moved out and got married he put up a sign that said "Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here" over the door to his roommates room.
