Wow! How stupid can people be? It's easy to check your firearm in your check baggage. Why would you try to fly with it?

I do like the TSA "Experts" quote:
“You see the way many passengers fling their carry-on bags onto the X-ray belts in the checkpoints. An accidental discharge could have tragic results.”
Is THAT the issue? Otherwise it would be OK? This point can be debated depending on your knowledge level of firearms, but not too many guns today can be fired by "Flinging" onto an X-Ray table.

This story can be taken many ways. The way I see it, if the man carries a gun every day for self-protection, then he could simply forget because that is the mindset you need so that you don't move in such a way that tells everyone "hey, I got a gun". I also believe that this is another way to make the TSA look good after they had everyone upset because of the long wait at all airports because of their procedures that passengers have to go thru to get on the plane.
I would hazard to guess (since the news media didn't flash this over all stations) that the man did nothing in a threatening way, or to indicate he meant harm to anyone. I also know that my Dad has lost 3 Mini-Swiss army knives that only have a fingernail file and scissors, toothpick and tweezers because it had a blade that was 1 1/2" long. Now that is getting ridiculous, that you would think an 80 year old man would try to do harm to a plane full of people.
