Ships hunting subs is old tech. If a ship can launch a torpedo from the deck, it's too late. Shipboard Helo or drone ASW is effective. As for carrier protection, that's what the USCG does. CG are the best torpedo catchers.

Adding an X at he end of the designation means they have no idea what they want. Just give us money... Here is an idea, scale down the LCS and make it the new FFG (if we really need one, that is...)!

scaling DOWN the LCS would not make it an FFG; it would just make it a much more useless LCS.
