Does profiling make sense - or is it unfair?

Profiling based on actual informed data or intelligence that gives details on the suspect is justifiable. Profiling out of innate prejudice towards race, ethnicity, religion, etc. is not. Makes sense to me.

If you don’t profile you’re fighting with a blindfold on.
