This amplifies my previous posting last night. Late in 1970 I was assigned to SEAL Team One. I was a blue water sailor in a brown water unit. During my first weekend as OOD during the holidays the Messenger of the Watch handed me a green bound journal titled Lessons Learned which every OOD had to sign. The contents included a summation of every After Action Report in which something had gone wrong and how to remedy it. Quite different from a Captain's Night Orders aboard a ship, it was a real eye opener. I had never before nor subsequently encountered this. It should be mandatory for every organization.

Be there ever a servicemember, officer or enlisted, who would or could admit they couldn't accomplish the mission given the assets or resources allocated or available to them? How about falling on your sword instead? It might be quicker than being chewed to death by your very own superiors. The paradime has always been to do more (or at least the same), as before, carry out any mission, etc, but with less and less of just about everything. That has come back painfully to bite US in the butts and it is unlikely the services will get a really sympathetic hearing from CongressPerps saddled with trillions in other needy programs.
