William Crapo "Billy" Durant (December 8, 1861 – March 18, 1947) was a leading pioneer of the United States automobileindustry, who created the system of multi-brand holding companies with different lines of cars; and the co-founder of General Motors with Frederic L. Smith, and of Chevrolet with Louis Chevrolet. He also founded Frigidaire.

Thank you Maj Marty Hogan for letting us know that December 8 is the anniversary of the birth of one of the leading pioneers of the United States automobile industry William Crapo "Billy" Durant who created the system of multi-brand holding companies with different lines of cars; and the co-founder of General Motors with Frederic L. Smith, and of Chevrolet with Louis Chevrolet and he also founded Frigidaire.

Interesting, Maj Marty Hogan, that this William Durant was a generational contemporary of another famous William Durant, an American writer, historian, and philosopher! One was called Billy and the other was called Will!
