On the one hand we have this person's opinion. The fact that he's a Veteran adds nothing. It still smells the same. On the other we have reality. I'll go with the latter...

As there is nothing of actual value in his rant, let alone any reasonable logical stream from his statements of opinion to actual facts, this article was a complete waste of my time. Saying that a person with three weeks of weapons training and the Army doesn't trust its recruits, so naturally private citizens should be forbidden to carry rifles is a massive logic jump, specifically as he fails to justify how a police force with very limited training is somehow abundantly qualified, and somehow a policeman would never make any mistakes....

Simply a series of strawmen set up by the author to be knocked down, by the author, with abused logic and false assumptions. Fact is that every year there ARE THOUSANDS “good men with a gun” stopping “bad men with a gun.” The police, FBI and NRA document such events. The author ignores these statistics.

The one point that the author makes that I will agree with is the training issue. Training and training experience is a significant PLUS. My wife and I practice BOTH target and combat ranges monthly if possible. It hones our skills and rotates our ammunition stocks. Good practice and regular bonding. PS: She is a better shot than me with a pistol. I’m better with long guns. ;)

the myth of the "good guy with a gun," debunked by a veteran because people lack experience.... that's his argument, are you freaking, kidding me..... No data, just people lack experience so we should worry about what can go wrong.... Yes, what can go wrong will go wrong, but, we only get better and learn to mitigate risk through training and experience. This NBC article is about as bad as the time when they tried to blame gamers for the KKK.
