I arrived at Bien Hoa at dusk, 49 years ago yesterday, 30 October, 1968. After money exchange, they called for all who had orders to MACV to get on a waiting bus. The first thing I noticed was the 2 MOs riding shotgun, the second a wire mesh covering all the windows. Some guy commented that the mesh could not keep bugs out. Someone explained to him that it was not there for bugs.
We rode that bus to MAVC Hqs, outside Ton Son Nuit.

I also arrived in the middle of the night, but the mortars were already falling. The bus ride, 10 or 15 minutes was scary.

Nostalgia 101! Great post. The only thing that could make it better would be if someone captured the writing on the partition walls in the latrine at Bien Hoa/90th Repo Depot. By 1970 enough soldiers had posted their individual American servicemen wisdom to those walls that they should have been sent to the Smithsonian. Anyone out there capture that image?
