The draft is not coming back. It is a bad idea so please stop asking for it to be reinstated. While it may seem good to force people to serve in the military against their will, thinking that it will increase their patriotism, understanding of responsibility, or whatever, it will only deepen the divide between those with enough money to buy themselves out of being drafted and those that will no way to avoid it. Besides, it is morally wrong to force a free person to work in a position they do not agree with and the military is no longer large enough to effectively use the millions of people that could be potentially drafted.

Selective Service is what they will use if they ever reinstated the draft call up as stated. That's why they have made males register. Hopefully Congress changes the law and makes women sign up to. The only reason we haven't is combat exclusion policy. It's gone - so make women sign up and face the same repercussions if they don't as men can face if they don't.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - Yes, the Selective Service is what will be used to call people up if there is a draft but it itself is not the draft, it is just registration for a potential future draft.
While I am too young to have experienced the draft personally most service members I have talked to from that time did not see draftees in the best of light. Standards tend to be lowered to ensure enough people are admitted and that is not what our modern military needs. Draftee terms of enlistment are typically too short for them to be in an MOS that requires any significant amount of training.
I agree with you that if males have to register so should females since females can be combat arms now.
I still stick with my original comment that it is morally wrong to force people to join the military against their will, even if you think it will benefit them or our society. Everyone should have agency over their own bodies and decide for themselves what the best path is for them to follow.

I don't want them to use the draft. F* that. It's bad enough the volunteers we get...

Note - 2/3 of those who served in WWII were drafted whereas 2/3 who served in Vietnam volunteered.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - I have never seen that statistic before but I agree with you that draftees aren't all they are cracked up to be.
