Thanks Maj Marty Hogan for reminding us that today is the 77th anniversary of Brazilian soccer great Edson Arantes do Nascimento who the world knows as Pelé.
Pelé is rather short which is not unusual. He is an amazing athlete.
My wife's first husband was a Bolivian soccer star who had the distinction of beating Pelé when he blocked his goals as a goalie in a championship in the late 1960s. That man was renowned for using his head to block soccer balls at 100 MPH or so. Sadly he died of brain cancer in 199. The correlation between using his head to block the soccer balls and cancer was not clearly established until much too late.
My wife and I were introduced on October 8, 1999 which is the day before our shared birthday.
