Agree. Although not perfect, the Kurds have been the closest thing to a reliable ally we've had in the region. Not sure the lines we drew following WWI ever made sense.

Will be interesting to see how this one plays out. The Kurds aren't known for retreating whereas Iraqi forces rival the French. In fact, as the article notes, the only reason the Kurds are in Kirkuk is because Iraqi forces "melted away" in the face of the daesh threat and the Kurds stepped in to fill the vacuum. My money's on the Kurds if it comes down to a real fight.

This could be interesting considering the fact that the Iranians are helping the Iraqis right now. And, if I heard the POTUS correctly last week, we aren't exactly on good terms with Iran. I'm certain we already have forces advising the Kurds. And we have forces advising the Iraqis. We're going to have to pick a side at some point - or just walk away.
