All those of you who expect the government to provide health care for all citizens, not just veterans, and countless other services, and haven't learned just how inept they are by visiting the DMV, here's another object lesson. Let me share another similar story... Once upon a time a private charity created a veterans community in West Los Angeles, complete with housing, stores, theaters. The VA took over the operation and tore down the veterans facilities. They used part of the land to build a veterans hospital. The rest they rented (sound like the hotel in Paris?). The interesting thing is that no one can account for all the rentals that have been collected over the years. (I wonder if anyone can account for the lease payments collected on the Paris Hotel). Yeah, that's the way bureaucrats swing and still there are people who expect them to take over and provide for our every need. Good luck with that.

Having worked for the govt for most of my adult life, I know better than to trust the Govt with anything important. Corruption aside, the ineptitude of the government is unparalleled.

Is this for real? How is this going on? Where is the money going that the VA gets from the Lease of this Hotel? If it is bring money into the VA, how has it been used? Is the money going into the cost to support veterans. I was able to glean any real information from the article except that the property is currently owned by the VA and the government wants something done about it.

If you are going to Drain the Swamp you cannot leave any of the swamp creatures behind. Shulkin is one of the swamp creatures... Until the appointment of David Shulkin in 2017, all appointees and acting appointees to the post were United States military veterans... The Department of Veterans Affairs has once again been found to have hidden the gross misconduct of its employees. New reports have shown that the VA has purposely concealed malpractice and other misconduct by its employees at an alarming rate. According to the report from USA Today, the VA has covered up serious mistakes or outright misconduct by its medical staff. In many cases, employees leave with sizeable monetary settlements rather than being fired.
Those mistakes and misdeeds include misreading of CT scans, accusations of harassment, leaving a psychiatric patient in restraints for hours, and a podiatrist who made mistakes that harmed veterans in 88 cases. Among the settlements provided to VA employees was a provision that the employee may no longer work within the VA, however the VA agreed to, “purge negative records from personnel files.”
Lets trade a hotel for healthcare how about it!
