Actually ... the Girl Scouts are not too happy with the Boy Scouts admitting girls. Poaching on their turf, I guess.

Hell yeah - girl scout cookies sell like crack cocaine. Boy scouts couldn't complete.

The interesting part of the story is that they will "allow" the girls to earn the rank of Eagle. When they first began recruiting girls into the Explorer program, they added the caveat that Explorers could not earn Eagle unless they had been Boy Scouts (which effectively blocked the girls from earning the highest award). However, the Boy Scout Council neglected to bar them from earning the Sea Scout rank of Quartermaster which is equivalent to Eagle Scout. Actually, I have always had greater respect for the Quartermaster who had to demonstrate proficiency in the very specific realm of piloting, seamanship, and small boat handling. Eagle Scouts earned their rank by learning a little bit about a wide variety of skills without demonstrating mastery of any one of them (Boy, I can't wait to hear the Eagle Scouts chime in on that one. Well, go ahead. What I said is true)

CPT Jack Durish It's been decades since the boy scouts was actually about scouting, only a handful of merit badges are elective for an eagle, the required merit badges are all about safety, responsibility and community involvement. The fun part of scouting is after eagle. It's a sad day for this eagle scout, my son won't be joining in.

MAJ (Join to see) - I was a Cub Scout when Truman was President, a Scout and Sea Scout when Ike sat in the Oval Office. Those were the days. During the period of the Vietnam War, Scouting fell into disrepute as the military fell into disrepute. It was, after all, a quasi-military organization originally created to prepare young men for military service. It almost went out of business, but the Mormon Church bought it (well, took over its direction) and salvaged it for their own purposes. And give them credit, they do turn out clean-cut, all-American lads while many areas such as the Left Coast turn out SJWs. As a Sea Scout skipper, I had my run ins with the Boy Scout Council and I'm sure they celebrated when I retired from Scouting. I have yet to hear of a Merit Badge for playing video games, so I guess there's still some hope.

CPT Jack Durish - I think the Mormon church's affixation with the BSA is coming to an end, they already own nearly all of the BSA camps in the west of the US, they announced an official end with the BSA program for 14+ year olds, likely they'll institute their own program in the next few years and separate completely from the BSA. Total hearsay on my part.
