I wonder how many “patriots” are as offended at NASCAR and their displays of the treasonous confederate flag at tracks like Darlington or Charlotte

Citizens have a right to disrespect the Flag. Others, such as I, have a right to view those protests as an affront to the thousands who died defending that flag. If you ascribe to the fact that people have a right to protest - you must also ascribe to the fact that others have an equal right to view said protest with loathing and contempt. Free speech and Freedom of Choice work both ways.

Progressive snowflakes claim hatred of anything AMERICAN as an exclusive right, we retain the right to disagree. In my time we used to say Fiuk them if they can’t take a joke.

There really is no clear reason why they are kneeling now. So many people doing it for so many personal reasons the intended message is blurred. I have disgust for them doing this during the anthem as I perceive it as an insult to all the Flag stands for. I believe some think the Flag stands for the sacrifice of our servicemen and women. That may be how it became about soldiers. Personally, my family traces veterans all the way back to the Revolution and yes, I am offended when the Flag or our Anthem is insulted.

SGT (Join to see) - When will the idiots learn? If your livelihood depends on popularity, it's not a good idea to deliberately do something that will make you less popular. Insulting a significant portion of one's fan base is stupid. Short term, they get a moment of anger-based satisfaction by insulting the people who buy their jerseys. Long term, those people go elsewhere for their entertainment.
Did you know that the NFL's salary cap depends in large part on their TV contracts? And guess what those TV contracts are based on? That's right, RATINGS. And ratings are going down. (Even as I'm typing this, my TV is off, whereas normally I'd be watching NFL football.) What that means is the salary cap is going to go down, and when it does, some players are going to make less money and some players are going to lose their jobs.
That is short-sighted. And that's not a good thing.

SSgt Christopher Brose - popularity? The NFL makes BILLIONS you think this protest will stop any of that? I hope the players keep taking a knee personally. They are doing a peaceful protest.

SFC (Join to see) - Nobody is arguing that it's not a peaceful protest. But protesting the flag and the anthem doesn't sit well with a lot of people who constitute the NFL's target audience. And enough people are tuning out that it's having an effect on ratings. And THAT is going to have an impact, because the NFL's salary cap is determined by revenue from TV contracts, and those contracts are determined by ratings. If ratings are down measurably, TV revenue will decrease... and if that continues, the salary cap will go down. And when that happens, some NFL players will make less money and some will lose their jobs.
Jerry Jones has made it clear that his players will respect the flag or they won't play. Jerry Jones might singlehandedly save the NFL.
